Copper jewelry comes to Family Jewels and Silver Inc.

Here at Family Jewels we listen to our customers!
We listen to our customers!

The history of Native American Indians using copper is interesting.
Native American Indians and the Old Copper culture appeared about 3000 BC and lasted approximately 2,000 years. Its tools and weapons, particularly its adzes, gouges, and axes, clearly indicate an adaptation to the forest.

“Old Copper” culture that flourished in the upper Great Lakes region of North America beginning about 4000 BC and continuing over the course of the next 2,000 years.

Clearly, copper was a metal the Natives liked and used. But, one must muse they stayed away from the shinny yellow metal we all know as gold. Even the use of silver did not start until the eighteenth century.

Copper was used for utensils, working tools and even for weapons. They also used them for decoration and making early jewelry. Copper had a close meaning with Mother Earth.
We have been requested to cast some beautiful copper jewelry, charms and pendants.
As I write this article the first casting molds are in progress, and we will add a section to our web store once they are finished.
We thank our friends for suggesting our making some copper jewelry for their Regalia.

Our Friend a Gemologist Jeweler in Great Bend, Kansas

Osiyo:

We have now joined with our friend Larry in a new adventure for Annlee Cakes.

November 10th we drove to Great Bend with a full display of Native Regalia and added it to his jewelry store in downtown Great Bend. We have also added regalia to his brand new online jewelry store. Family Jewels and Silver Inc.

We know our friend is a Gemologist and a jeweler?
But were curious about the difference?

Larry provided the following for us to add to this blog.

What a Gemologist Knows? And is!
Many people are known as a jeweler, but may not be a Gemologist.
Here at Family Jewels and Silver Inc. we do know the difference.

A Gemologist studies the following, and has a very good working knowledge in these fields of gems and jewelry manufacturing.
Diamond Essentials
Diamonds & Diamond Grading
Colored Stone Essentials
Colored Stones
Gem Identification
Diamond Grading Lab
Colored Stone Grading Lab
Gem Identification Lab
Appraisals, Sales, and Custom Jewelry and Repair knowledge.

A Gemologist:
Inspects gemstones, such as diamonds, jade, sapphires, and rubies, to evaluate their genuineness, quality, and value, utilizing knowledge of gems and market valuations. Examines gem surfaces and internal structure, using polariscope, refractometer, microscope, and other optical instruments, to differentiate between stones, and identify rare specimens. Detects flaws, defects, or peculiarities affecting gem values.

Immerses stones in prescribed chemical solutions to determine specific gravities and key properties of gemstones or substitutes that indicate physical characteristics of stone for gem identification, quality determination, and for appraisal. Grades stones for color, perfection, and quality of cut. Identifies treatments that enhance the value of gemstones and gem materials. Estimates wholesale and retail value of gems, following pricing guides, market fluctuations, and various economic changes that affect distribution of precious stones. May advise customers and others in use of gems to create attractive jewelry items
A jeweler can be a gemologist...but it is not necessary to be a gemologist to be a jeweler. Jewelers are the fine people out there who sell jewelry, gemstones, and watches to the public. But for the most part, retail jewelers are not trained gemologists or appraisers. So simply because someone has been in the business for 10 or 20 years or more, does not make them a qualified gemologist or appraiser. Even though it may indeed make them a fine upstanding citizen in your local business community as a seen jeweler.
A gemologist is one who studies gemstone identification and grading. A good gemologist is not necessarily a good appraiser. But a good appraiser must be a good gemologists. How can this be? Well, a good gemologist will be someone who is constantly involved in the study of gemstones. One who deals daily in the world of gems.

What saddens me the most:
Is when a person enters my store wanting a piece of jewelry re-sized or repaired only to discover it is not real and clearly not what they were told when they purchased it. Fast selling giant stores have sales people and not jewelers nor maybe not even a Gemologist on hand. Imported stuff that simply is not what they say it is. I suggest going to any jewelry store and finding out if they actually manufacture their jewelry in store. That is the real difference!
Larry is a Gemologist GG.
He works with gems, silver and gold every single day.
And, he is a manufacture of fine custom jewelry.
Larry is a hands on make it one at a time custom jeweler in Great Bend, Kansas.
And, is a recognized Court Expert Witness.

Twisted Bugle Bead 30mm Red Transparent Iris Beads Available at Annlee cakes

Osiyo:

We now have the very hard to find Twisted Bugle Bead 30mm Red Transparent Iris bugle beads available at our online shop. ONE OUNCE of the above bead/bugle. Twisted bugle beads are very popular for embroidery and costumes. They were made in the Czech Republic. Natives have used them on their Regalia ever since they first were brought for trade and crafting. We package them in pill type bottles for transportation to you. Bugles are delicate and in transit a couple may even chip. So we take the greatest care to add stuffing if needed in the bottles to prevent movement while in transit.

SOLD BY THE OUNCE ONLY. We do not count the beads/bugles: We weigh them! Expect to receive approximately 3 bugle 30mm beads per gram, or that is about 99 plus bugle 30mm bugle beads per ounce.

Please allow 3-7 business days for shipping on beads/bugles Because we do not prepackage them. We do order by order.

Annlee Cakes and the Powwows

Osiyo:

September was a marvelous month of going to powwows and meeting new friends.

Our booth display this year was 10 feet wide and 60 feet long. An impressive powow display of hand crafted seed bead jewelry for the Great Circle.  And, at the White Cloud, Kansas powwow we had the enjoyment of many friends and the sharings of traditional ways. The weather was wonderful.

The second powwow of September was at Standing Bear in Oklahoma where once more blessings flowed as the Eagle flies.  The attending crowd was interesting and many questions were answered. A very good sharing!

Although we are a bit worn out from two weekend powwows in a rom: The third of the season is this October first weekend at the Kaw Reservation in Oklahoma. This is a traditional event with many things going on. Wonderful things always occur at this powwow.

We crafted many new designs and some are now online at our shops. You are invited to visit and explore, and to share the site with friends and family. We appreciate your time and that you share the links. We remain a small family business thanks to all of you.

September at Annlee Cakes of Arkansas City, Kansas

Osiyo:

September has arrived and the heavy pow wow season begins with the White Cloud tarditional affair. Then we go to Standing Bear and finally the Kaw pow wow.
Hope to see you there!

We are excited about all three.
For we have designed and crafted so many new Regalia items that the list would fill page afater page. Some have now been placed at our Online Shop.
August was a very rewarding month!
We were honored to bring back many vintage items and repair them to original in the best ways we can. We also made two very wonderful friends in Texas and look forward to a friendship growing even after repairing their beautiful vintage regalia.
You can read about a repair and see photos at:
Repair of a possible bag      Please share the link with friends!

The gardens did quite well, and many cucumbers were given away. Along with some fun other things. Like our new grown licorich plants. They are fun eating the flowers and even the stems are edible. A few of our neighbor firemen are seen pinching off a few flowers almost every day. And, a couple are spotted with a salt shaker eating fresh tomatoes.

The western fires have burned allot of sweetgrass areas and the White Sage areas,
Some sellars are now selling Canada sweet grass which is not the right Ceromonial sweetgrass. You can tell the difference by eye sight. The Canadian grass has purple stripes running down it and Native Sweetgrass does not. So be prepared that real sweetgrass has risen in price as well as Genuine White Sage Leaves.

Our main dot com site has been remodled and pages added.

Our CafePress shops have grown by leaps and bounds!
We now have over 140,000 one by one hand art designed products for the entire family.
Our Military art section is fantastic with gifts and gadgets for home, office and personal.
The list of clothing seems endless along with drink ware, pet items and even art prints each design is artist signed and available exclusive from us. Have fun exploring!
We have Holiday sections and gift cards for all occasions.

May Wakan Tanka encircle you and yours with faith to believe, hope for the future, and love for all….
Blessings Annlee and Bob

President Obama and his Benghazi ORDER

Osiyo:

Usually, I stay pretty silent about politics? How ever, the deaths at Benghazi need to be addressed by all Americans. We deserve the true facts about it.

The one fact about Benghazi while under attack is that they DID ask for assistance. That we can all agree upon: They did ask for military help. They did call for help! They did call Washington! Survivors testified to this fact in Congress.

Only one person in this Nation decides to send military into harms way or decides not to send military help into harms way. Our Commander In Chief.

That person had to be asked what to do? The choice made was no military aid or response while under attack would be sent to Benghazi. Only the President makes the choice what ever that choice is. In this case send help or Order all forces to Stand Down.

That was and remains what everyone is in fear of looking at. And, if you think a General of any Rank could have sent aid, FEST, troops or even planes by their choice: Forget that approach: Only our Commander in Chief makes the choice to send help or not send help.

Talking points after the attack have little meaning when the real question remains unasked.

Ask the question:

What was the order given by our Commander in Chief?

Would you like a bumper sticker on this?
