Ant Hill Red Garnets

Ant Hill Garnets are found on and around the margins of ant hills. The ants encounter the garnets while excavating their underground passages. The ants haul the stones to the surface and discard them. The rain washes the garnets clean and moves them down the flank of the ant hill, where they can accumulate and be discovered.

Native Americans discovered them long ago and marveled at their color and beauty. They regarded them as sacred and special. Sometimes they sewed them into ceremonial rattles or gave them as tokens of appreciation or added them to their medicine bag as a gift from Mother Earth.

In 1971, after much work, and at the urging of U.S. Representative Bella Abzug (D-NY), Congress designated August 26 each year as“Women’s Equality Day.” This day was selected to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 26, 1920. This amendment granted women the right to vote.

Celebrate this day in a number of ways?
But, first, stop and celebrate the accomplishments made in gaining the right to vote, and towards equality for women. Women's rights groups suggest you continue to be involved in pursuing full and equal rights for women in all areas and in all issues.the culmination of decades of effort by women suffragettes and other groups. Their efforts dated back to first women’s rights convention in 1848 at Seneca Falls, New York.

Fourth someone must hand collect them?
Fifth they must be washed and polished?

Seventh: Those cut gemstones are then added to fine jewelry.

The largest known cut and finished Ant Hill Red Garnet gemstone from Arizona is about 1.02 carats. And came from Garnet Ridge, near Dinnehotso, Apache County, Arizona. This finished stone is a 7.6 x 5.7 millimeter oval, weighing 1.02 carats. Ant hill garnets larger than one carat are unusual in a finished cut gemstone. It takes a larger ruff stone to cut it into a gemstone quality for jewelry. Our note is about "Finished Cut Gems" only for size known reference for our readers.

Egyptians mined peridot on the Red Sea island of Zabargad, the source for many large fine peridots in the world’s museums. The Egyptians called it the “gem of the sun.” Today this gem is still prized for its restful yellowish green hues and long history. A great example of this easy confusion was that for hundreds of years people believed the fabulous 200-ct. gems adorning the shrine of the "Three Holy Kings" in Germany’s Cologne Cathedral were emeralds? They are, in fact, peridots.
